Two commercial platforms built on datasets anybody can download. The datasets are free; making them answer a question that carries consequences is the work.

UK Crime Statistics

Data platform · Subscription SaaS · Public-sector adjacent

A defensible answer to “how safe is this location?” — for organisations that have to justify the answer.

Official police data turned into a weighted safety score for any neighbourhood in England and Wales, benchmarked nationally and adjusted for population. Free postcode search for anyone; specialist reports for safeguarding leads, estates managers and employers; and for organisations answering for many sites, a portfolio view that ranks an entire estate on one live grid with board-ready reporting.

Shared infrastructure we maintain because every project needed it, and a mobile application built on the same domain layer as everything else.

GeoCode

Geospatial toolkit · UK postcode & census geography

A UK geography toolkit: postcode in, coordinates and census geography out.

A reusable .NET toolkit that turns a postcode into a complete picture of place — latitude and longitude, full address, LSOA, local authority district, region, population, deprivation decile and police force. Built once and shared across the estate, which is what lets our crime platform benchmark like-for-like areas instead of raw counts.

A quiet record of when you last did the things that matter.

Built around two questions: when did I last do this, and when is it meaningful to do it again. Habits to maintain, behaviours to space out and events simply worth observing. Everything stays on the device unless the owner exports it — a constraint that shaped the architecture from the first commit rather than an afterthought bolted on.

The common thread

Four projects, one way of working

Built on data nobody else had used

Three of the four run on public datasets that were freely available and practically unusable. The product is the work done between download and answer.

Still running, still ours

Monthly data cycles, live subscribers and an uptime obligation. We did not hand these over; we still answer for them, in one case fifteen years on.

One stack, deliberately

C# and .NET throughout, SQL Server for storage, Azure underneath. A shared domain layer means a fix in one place is a fix everywhere.
